How padel scoring works

Advantage

Points go 15, 30, 40 and game. At 40-40 (deuce) a pair needs two points in a row: advantage, then game. The score can return to deuce any number of times.

Star point

At deuce 1 and deuce 2 an advantage is played as usual. If the score returns to deuce a third time, one deciding point, the star point, wins the game. The receiving pair chooses to receive on the right or the left and may not switch positions. In mixed doubles, the player of the same sex as the server receives.

Golden point

At the first deuce one deciding point wins the game. The receiving pair chooses the side and may not switch positions to receive it. In mixed doubles, the player of the same sex as the server receives.

Tie-break

At 6-6 a tie-break to 7 points, two clear, decides the set 7-6. The next server serves one point from the right; then each player serves two points in turn. The next set starts with the other pair serving.

Changing ends

Change ends after the 1st, 3rd and every odd game of the set, and after every 6 points in a tie-break. The counter shows it after the point.

Short formats

If agreed before the match, sets can be played to 4 games (tie-break at 4-4), and the third set can be replaced by a match tie-break to 7 or a super tie-break to 10, two points clear.

Padel scoring questions

What is the golden point in padel?

Golden point is option 3 of the FIP scoring rules. At the first 40-40 one deciding point is played instead of advantage, and the pair that wins it wins the game. The receiving pair chooses whether to receive on the right or the left.

What is the star point?

Star point is option 2 of the FIP rules. At deuce 1 and deuce 2 the pairs play advantage as usual. If neither converts and the score reaches deuce a third time, a single deciding point, the star point, wins the game.

How does a padel tie-break work?

At 6-6 the set is decided by a tie-break: the first pair to 7 points with a two-point lead wins the set 7-6. One player serves the first point, then each player serves two points in the set's order, and the pairs change ends every 6 points.

Is the score saved if I reload the page?

Yes. The match is kept in this browser on this device, so a reload or a closed tab continues where you left off. Nothing is sent to our servers, and once the page is open, counting works without a connection.

In padel, who serves first in the set after a tie-break?

A player of the pair that did not serve the first point of the tie-break. The counter moves the serve marker for you; the dot shows the serving pair.
